A Quality Antique Radio Makes The Perfect Christmas Gift!

Here we have a stunning 1940 Zenith model 6-S-439 table radio. This highly collectible beauty features a gorgeous walnut cabinet, wrap around grill, slide rule black dial, automatic tuning, wave magnet loop antenna, and exceptional performance on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.

Cabinet:  The dark walnut cabinet is simply stunning. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. A large wrap around grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. It all comes together magnificently with the slide rule black dial coupled with various pushbuttons, tone controls, and surrounding brass escutcheon. Pinstripe inlays, dark walnut tones, and the original label on the bottom finish the set off perfectly. This beauty is sure to be the topic of conversation no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in.

Dial/Knobs:  The brightly lit slide rule black dial is a real ‘eye catcher’. All letters and numbers indicating station frequencies are legible and show little signs of wear. Foreign country names are displayed on the bottom of the dial for shortwave reference. The brass escutcheon is in great shape and the glass is clear with no chips or breaks. This set features automatic tuning, the five pushbuttons located at the bottom of the dial, as well as bass and treble tone controls on either side. All pushbuttons are fully functional but it is recommended that you use the manual tuning knob due to the age and delicacy of the automatic tuning mechanism (if using the automatic feature stations must be set by owner in their location). Both knobs are in excellent condition and work as they should; on/off & volume, band switch, and tuning (located behind the band switch).

Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a caramel  gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. This grill cloth can also be purchased separately on our other eBay auctions.

Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in Zenith's 6 tube copper chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. I'm able to pick up many stations, near and far, across the AM broadcast and shortwave bands with deep rich tone and plenty of volume using just the loop antenna. The included copper line antenna adds even stronger reception if needed.

The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.

Please wait for an invoice to be sent by me, with actual shipping costs, prior to paying. eBay's automated invoice does not factor in the balloon surcharge for oversized boxes nor insurance. If payment is made prior to my invoice being sent, another invoice may be sent for the additional charges. International bidders please email me for a shipping quote prior to bidding.

If you are new to eBay, or have 0 feedback, please email me your contact information prior to bidding. I want to ensure a safe, easy, and smooth transaction for everybody.

I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately, as can be confirmed with my outstanding feedback. I have sold many sets to my valued customers, museums, high profile businesses, and as TV/Movie props. All have been extremely pleased, so bid with confidence.

My radios are expertly packed using oversized boxes, many layers of bubble wrap, and several inches of packing peanuts surrounding each side of the radio so you can be assured they arrive safely. USPS economy is my default shipping method to save on shipping charges. USPS Priority or UPS can be requested at a higher rate.

Policies / Warranty: We offer a 14 day money back guarantee (buyer pays return shipping with professional packing) if the radio has been grossly misrepresented. Our radios are accurately described and in working order when shipped out. In rare instances however, as with any vintage electronics, minor problems can occur during shipment due to the age and delicacy of antique radio parts. If your radio arrives and does not work please let us know. We will gladly walk you through the process of troubleshooting to get it started. If that fails to correct the problem we will pay for return shipping to us, diagnose and fix the problem, and return the radio to you. We also offer a 30 day warranty on all the tubes, capacitors, resistors, and filters. Due to the design of some antique radio parts we cannot warranty transformers, coils, tuners, and speakers. However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rare instances, if there is shipping damage a USPS insurance claim request must be made to me from the buyer immediately upon receipt of the radio. A USPS inspection of the radio, boxes, and all packing materials is required. The refund will be issued upon USPS approval and payment of the insurance claim.

If you have any questions please email me and I will answer in a timely manner.

International Bidders: This auction is open to international bidders however I ask that you email me prior to bidding for a shipping cost quote. International bidders please be aware that USPS will not fully insure shipments to some countries. If that is the case with your country, you assume the risk of any damage or undelivered package. Also, please be aware of your country’s customs policies, handling times, charges, and duty taxes. These regulations are out of my control and the responsibility of the buyer.

Antique tube radio reception can differ greatly depending on location, length of antenna, and amount of interference in different areas. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings, and hooked up to a 12’ copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, and interference. Antique Radio Electronics, whether restored or un-restored, are by nature hazardous due to their voltage, design and age. Any operation, repairs or other adjustments are done at your own risk.
